Description
Villa Mandarine is located in the out skirts of Rabat and was originally a farmhouse within an orange grove turned family home. Then in 2001 Villa Mandarine became a guest-house, still run by the family, offering thirty-six rooms ranging from standard and deluxe to suites.
Decorated by the owner herself, Claudie Imbert, and maintained by her daughters, the rooms at Villa Mandarine are homely and well cared for. The bedrooms have been furnished simply in a French style, are spacious, and benefit from lots of natural light. Whilst Villa Mandarine offers standard rooms, four suites supply a luxurious alternative with greater space and comfort. The rooms and suites are arranged on two-levels framing the central courtyard with its mosaic fountain. Each room has en-suite facilities and air-conditioning.
The hotel’s grounds are considered rich in appeal, the Villa’s garden of over two hectares creating a peaceful setting with resident peacocks. Additionally there are in-house sauna and hammam facilities, offering massage and beauty therapies are open to guests. The pool is of a good size for guests to swim in, for children there is an alternative children’s pool, and a Jacuzzi is also available. Changing rooms are installed within the hotel. Furthermore, a fitness centre is provided for guests to use. Although tennis and golf are not available at Villa Mandarine, staff can help guests organise a trip to the nearest facilities if requested. And if guests are looking to explore the surrounding area, Villa Mandarine’s staff can arrange taxi-hire for day-trips to Rabat or to local coastal towns.
Surrounding the swimming pool are sun-loungers and parasols for guests to relax in a shady spot or sunbathe. Inside Villa Mandarine, salons provide billiards, bridge cards, as well as a small library. Guests are welcomed to the villa with complimentary drinks, and traditional tea-time at four o’clock is marked at weekends with various complimentary pastries and cakes. The villa’s restaurant, complete with Michelin star chef Wolfgang Grobauer, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily with fresh local ingredients. Whilst guests may choose to eat here, meals may also be served al fresco. In addition, the Villa has its own African-styled bar for any alcoholic beverages.

The Editor's Summary
Villa Mandarine has received positive reviews from travellers who have recently stayed at the guest-house. Reviews have commented on the “peaceful environment”, which resembles a “resort” with its facilities, yet the “very attentive” staff are a reminder that it is a family-run villa. Guests have felt welcomed and well “looked after”. Guestrooms have been described as “cleanly decorated” and comfortable, and the pool and hammam facilities have been an attraction. Praise has been awarded to Villa Mandarine’s restaurant, where guests have commented on cuisine which is both “gorgeous” and “good value for money...giving guests a real taste of Morocco”.
We were surprised at how large the hotel was when we arrived, but its size does not in any way reduce the service from the staff. Right from our arrival we were greeted with welcome drinks and asked if we would like to take dinner later in the evening. Throughout our stay the staff were very attentive and we felt looked after. The hotel itself is well facilitated: the large pool with sunbeds, hammam and sauna, small gym room and indoor salons will keep any guest busy. It almost feels like a standard chain-hotel with its comfort and many leisure facilities but the staff remind you its actually a family-run place, and a very good one at that.

The peaceful environment here is unlike anywhere else we’ve stayed in Morocco. The hotel is geared towards making guests as comfortable as possible. The room we stayed in was cleanly decorated and has a fresh feel. We ate all (but one dinner in rabat) meals in the hotel and enjoyed every one, other in-house restaurants we’ve had to eat in previously have been overpriced but food at the villa was good value for money and giving guests a real taste of Morocco. We lounged around the pool and did a bit of swimming on our first day, then took a trip to Rabat on the second. The extra charge of the taxis in the area is an inconvenience but Rabat is a nice place to visit and not all that far from the villa.

Beautiful setting outside of Rabat – like a resort with its gardens, pool etc. We stayed in a standard room and were very happy with our choice. Meals were gorgeous – tagines and other Moroccan dishes went down very well. Perhaps not suitable for travellers hoping to get out and explore the cities and towns but definitely the right place for a relaxing break for two.
