Description
Featured in The Sunday Times Travel Magazine, Riad Maroc has been favourably reviewed as a reasonably-priced riad in the centre of Marrakech with a team of staff who welcome guests “like royalty” into a one-hundred year home emphasizing traditional culture and modern comfort.
Constructed around a tiled courtyard, the riad’s two floors offer four rooms each colour co-ordinated and decorated with different objects to create a set of unique environments. Three of the four rooms offer double beds, but only one room offers en-suite facilities. However, there are three separate shared bathrooms for guests located in Riad Maroc. Highlights of the Riad Maroc's bedrooms include hand-painted doors, bedside tables, and double bed's painted headboard. Beaten-copper sinks and large tadelakt baths feature in the bathrooms. The pale linen drapes and walls painted in white or pastel tones are brightened by pieces of modern art hanging alongside more traditional decoration such as tiles on floors, walls and blue mosaic tables in the courtyard. Additionally, stained glass panels in the some of the doors play with the morning light, whilst the evenings are lit romantically by red lights and small lanterns set on the floor.
Riad Maroc’s bougainvillea-laced courtyard with tables and chaise-long provides a shaded space to take breakfast and other meals if required. From here guests can wander into one of the two salons comfortably furnished with seating and tables for indoor dining. Alternatively, the roof terrace offers spaces in which to dine or simply relax in the sun. Exotically draped, a tented sofa and table provide a sheltered option out of the sun. Riad Maroc offers breakfast and half-board options, as well as lunch (only on request), consisting of salads and hot or cold soup. Whilst tagines are generally on the dinner menu based on fish, meat or vegetarian ingredients as well as a choice of desserts (chocolate souffles, strawberry mousse and fruit salads). If guests take a liking to the cuisine, cookery lessons can be arranged led by the enthusiastic cooks.
The convenient location of Riad Maroc allows guests the option of eating out at many of restaurants and cafes in the main square or Gueliz (new city). The houseman, named Jalil, can arrange restaurant bookings if necessary, as well other plans such as activities and transport in and around Marrakech. If guests require a city-guide, or to be simply shown and taught to barter through the winding maze of the souks, Jalil will be on hand with help and guidance.

The Editor's Summary
Riad Maroc has made “a big impression” on recent guests. Favourable reviews have come from families who found their stay a “really pleasant experience” and couples satisfied by the “friendly hosts” and “reliable base in which to view the city”. The location has been praised for being “only a short walk away” from the city’s attractions, and therefore “easy and safe” to navigate to and from. However, the riad itself has been described as not the “most comfortable with rather hard beds and salons that were fairly small”. Despite this, the staff have featured in reviews for their “warmth” and advice generating an “impressive” “hospitality” at Riad Maroc. Furthermore, guests have recommended eating dinner at the riad as “the cooks can cater for your taste as its all cooked fresh” and the result is enjoyable, “authentic and home-cooked” food.
We enjoyed a stay of two days at Riad Maroc at the end of last month. The location was useful for our trip, and even in the evenings when we were returning we felt safe in the area and had no trouble finding the riad. Out of all factors, we thought the location was probably the best as the riad itself, although quaintly Moroccan and well looked after, wasn't the most comfortable with rather hard beds and salons that were fairly small. We'd recommend the riad for the staff and location, but if we return to Marrakech we'll probably explore alternative accommodation

Riad Maroc was a really pleasant experience for my whole family. Not only were Jalil and Kota excellent with our children, allowing us to have a calm few days, but their general hospitality was impressive: mint tea refreshments, cleanliness of the rooms but above all their warmth with Jalil advising us on how to spend our days and helping us with some bartering one morning in the souks. Although there wasn’t much in the way of facilities in the riad, we realized a pool, a television, a sauna etc would be rather irrelevant in light of how much there is to see and do outside, and with only a short walk away from it all, it was easy and safe to find our way around the city. Overall Riad Maroc made a big impression on us and we would guarantee an enjoyable for families who are thinking of visiting Marrakech.

As it was our first visit to Marrakech, we planned everything in a lot of detail and choosing our riad was a big step. Fortunately, Riad Maroc was everything we’d hoped it to be. We’d looked for a small riad that had friendly hosts and a reliable base in which to explore the city, and that’s exactly what we received. On top of that we found the meals at the riad of good quality, and I think it a good tip to stay in for dinner as the cooks can cater for your taste as its all cooked fresh and you’ll wind up with cuisine that is authentic and home-cooked. Compared to other places we looked at, for the money, I think it was good value and we would happily stay there again with friends.
