Description
Originally a privately owned home, Riad Ksiba opened as a guest-house in 2004 after two years of restoration under the owners John Williams and Claire Messenger. The restoration closely followed traditional Moroccan techniques using authentic materials. Subsequently the six bedrooms, of which three are suites, offer a Moroccan-European style and comfort, aiming to fulfill John and Claire’s intention of allowing guests to “feel as if the riad is their own”. All the bedrooms are named after Moroccan writers, and are individually decorated in Moroccan accessories against refreshing white-washed walls. Many bedrooms have their own seating areas and all rooms have en-suite facilities as well as air-conditioning (separate to each room allowing guests to control temperature). Whilst each of Riad Ksiba’s rooms offers their own unique features, the “Nizar” Suite provides its own private terrace.
Yet if guests choose not to book a suite, they may enjoy the welcoming communal areas throughout the riad, such as the roof terrace. Arranged with sun-loungers, parasols and an open shower (for a quick cool down) the roof terrace encourages guests to relax within the riad. Similarly the plunge-pool located on the ground-floor courtyard patio may appeal with its banana, orange and lemon trees providing shade. Riad Ksiba’s two salons, one designed for summer and one for winter (where guests can benefit from an open fire), provide a restful and comfortable space.
Read MoreWhilst Riad Ksiba’s kitchen can serve three meals a day, there is no such “in-house restaurant”. This kitchen can cater for vegetarian, vegan and special diets for guests and all meals can be served in the courtyard (covered in winter) or on the roof terrace (under the tent if necessary), unless guests prefer to take advantage of the riad’s room service. Breakfast is included in the cost of the stay and remains a simple meal of Moroccan breads, pastries, jams and fruit. Lunch and dinner are available upon request (at breakfast time) allowing time for staff to buy and cook with fresh ingredients.
The location of Riad Ksiba, south of Marrakesh’s main square (or medina), is advantageous to guests hoping to explore the city. The riad’s manageress, Nadia, is a true Marrakechi, able to advise guests on the city. A fifteen-minute walk will give guests the chance to visit many celebrated sites on foot. However if guests would prefer to hire a car or arrange a driver, this is also possible through the riad's team. Alternatively an English-speaking guide or personal shopper may be organised. If guests prefer to visit a hammam or swimming pool during their stay, Riad Ksiba will also help to arrange this. As two of the riad’s staff have Berber backgrounds, guests are encouraged to take a trip to the Atlas Mountains where these staff can introduce the local culture, cuisine and music to provide a new experience.

Other useful information
For guests wishing to swim, the hotel has an arrangement with Nikki Beach resort allowing guests pool-time.
Manager Nadia can also arrange for the Ksiba chef, a wonderful local lady whose cooking skills have been passed down to her through the female generations of her family, to demonstrate local Marrakech cooking techniques. Additionally, Ksiba staff will accompany guests to buy cooking ingredients in the souks before returning to have them prepared specifically for them (with guests' involvement if they wish).
Trips to the Atlas Mountains or to the coast can be arranged by speaking to Nadia.

We stayed in this riad for two nights and enjoyed every minute. The décor is fresh, yet retains the earthy Moroccan feel and the rooms (bedrooms and salons) are all furnished with comfort and style in mind. The staff couldn’t have been better, helping us to arrange transport from the airport and cooking up a wonderful dinner two nights running. Thanks Riad Ksiba!

Staying here for three nights made a good choice, its proximity to the city is exciting yet the riad remains peaceful. The riad is rather hidden away indeed, and at first we felt slightly concerned over safety issues but after the first night we felt settled. its a lovely place with kind staff, the rooms are plain but fairly comfortable, the facilities are a tad disappointing (no real pool, no indoor restaurant etc) but we felt got what we paid for overall.

Riad Ksiba was good value overall. Our bedroom was more roomy than we had expected and the bed was very comfortable. We took dinner on the roof-terrace one night and it was really romantic. As it was warm we decided not to sit under the tent, but under the stars! Incredibly atmospheric. The food was good, but it’s a rule that you must request lunch or dinner at breakfast the same day. We also really liked the location of the riad. (We had read about hotels south of the medina and that’s why we looked at Riad Ksiba). It’s a little way out from the sites (15 min walk) but if you don’t mind exploring on foot (and perhaps getting a little lost the first time!) then its no real problem.

This riad is a brilliant alternative to a normal hotel. Its inviting interiors and classic riad layout is something you must experience. The staff are very kind, and will offer as help as much as you need for planning your days in Marrakesh. They helped us plan a trip to the Atlas mountains, which will remain a wonderful memory. The prices at Riad Ksiba may not suit all budgets, but for couples or friends, as well as families, this riad is very welcoming.
