Description

Previously owned by a wealthy Moroccan family, Riad Isis offers four en-suite rooms and spa facilities in the centre of Marrakech’s bustling city. On arrival guests will enter the ground floor patio, delicately painted in “Zen” tones and arranged with a decorative pool, pot plants, candle-lit lanterns and seating, which together the owners hope provides a warm welcomed to Riad Isis.

All rooms at Riad Isis are located on the first floor of this traditional three-floor building. Being on the first floor means it is likely guests will not suffer from any noise at breakfast time on the terrace or when guests are returning to the riad in the evenings. The four rooms are all classed as junior suites, two of these offering double beds, one offering a choice between a double or twin, whilst the Vanilla Junior Suite offers twin beds (or three singles if necessary). The interior design of Riad Isis is simple yet colourful, with rooms being decorated in a style that corresponds to their names, yet with white walls to keep this intention restrained. The Tulip and Rose Junior Suites are furnished in bright orange and red bedspreads, curtains, rugs and lampshades. The Vanilla and Jasmine Junior Suites use more subdued tones such as golden yellow vanilla or dark purple jasmine. All rooms are en-suite and include air-conditioning.

Whilst the patio remains a shady spot during the day, guests are welcome to sunbathe on the terrace alongside the small, bubbling founain. Potted plants and naturally-made parasols provide some shade, whilst sun-beds allow guests to make the most of the sun. Additionally, tables and chairs and a tented area with sofas and a table provide an al-fresco opportunity to take breakfast. At night, the terrace changes, with lanterns and wall lights creating a dramatic north african effect.

This last ritual can also be arranged for a couple. Oriental massage is also offered on its own by half-hour treatment, or full hour. Massage is combined with relaxing music, essential oils, and candlelight to provide a comfortable, soothing atmosphere for guests.

As there is no restaurant offering lunch or dinner at Riad Isis, staff are able to advise on local places to eat and to arrange bookings if necessary. However breakfast is available and consists of crepes, bread, eggs and honeys and jams served with fresh orange juice. Other arrangements such as activities in and around Marrakech can also be booked via the riad. Particular excursions recommended by the riad are to the Waterfalls of Ouzoud, the coastal town of Essaouira, and southern destinations such as Ouarzazate. Riad Isis uses particular taxis for guests that are both reliable and reasonably priced. Alternatively, guests wishing to explore the city will find Riad Isis’s location very convenient for the main square, souks and palaces.

August 2009

open quoteWe particularly liked taking breakfast on the terrace, and it was lovely under the tent in the evenings with a very subtle cool breeze and the romantically lit lanterns. We thought the decoration of our room rather brash, we stayed in the tulip room, however the beds were more comfortable than we had expected, so we shouldn’t complain! Spending three nights was a perfect amount of time to see the city, especially as the location of the riad is so close to the vibrant goings-on in the city!close quote

open quoteWe booked this riad for its spa treatments in October of last year. Although the riad is quite small and plainly decorated, it is still evidently Moroccan, and the hammam scrubs were expertly delivered at, what we would call, very affordable prices. Definitely a good choice for travellers on the look-out for inner-city pampering that’s close to all the activities and sights available in Marrakech.close quote
