Description
Riad Fes is located within a ten-minute walk to Fez’s medina buzzing with shops, cafes, restaurants and the souks. Although located down a small derb (road or alleyway), Riad Fes is a fairly large hotel offering twenty-one guest-rooms.
Recently renovated, Riad Fes has kept many traditional elements within its original wing. On entry guests will see intricately carved wooden ceilings and stucco, as well as mosaic covered walls in the covered patio area. In addition to the original wing, Riad Fes has a modern wing that encompasses contemporary oriental styles with a baroque influence, and a new third wing.
If guests prefer this modern style, they may want to choose one of the deluxe rooms at Riad Fes. On the other hand, the standard rooms provide a Moroccan authenticity. The suites allow more room for guests and are furnished and decorated to a high standard. The Royal Suite has a private terrace, whilst the Ambassador Suite allows access onto a public terrace. All rooms as Riad Fes are comfortably adapted with en-suite facilities (tadelakt bathrooms), air-conditioning and satellite television on request. Bathrobes and slippers are also provided.
Read MoreThe Royal Suite has views over the medina and Atlas Mountains, similar to the communal terrace, a place in which guests can sunbathe during the day and dine in the evening. If guests prefer to dine inside then one of Riad Fes’s designated restaurants provides a cosy and comfortable option. Whether guests choose to be seated in L’Ambre or L’Oriental, they will be met with a variety of Moroccan based soups and tagines, cooked with ingredients bought fresh from the market. The accompanying Le Salon Oriental is a lounge bar, providing a range of wines, cocktails, liquers, and a selection of cigars. Additionally Riad Fes hosts live music from local musicians every night.
During the day Riad Fes serves a complimentary breakfast on the patio surrounding the pool and garden. Whilst the pool is a good place to take a dip to cool down during the day, Riad Fes also offers Hammam (steam bath) treatments and massage. Inside, the guesthouse presents a small library and souvenir shop.
Due to Riad Fes’s central location, guests can reach its local attractions with some ease. If guests wish to explore the city to its limits, Riad Fes can arrange tours of the city with a guide. Riad Fes also recommends ‘Royal Golf’ located fifteen kilometers from Fes for golf-enthusiasts and offers a “tailored golf escapade”, which can be explained further upon request.
Where is it?
Riad Fes is located within a ten-minute walk from the city-centre and a twenty-five minute drive from the Fez city airport.

The Editor's Summary
Riad Fes has shone like a ‘gem’ in reviews from guests who have visited recently. Some guests have stated that ‘the glory lies in the astounding architecture’, whilst others have praised the ‘view of the Atlas mountains and the medina’ from the terrace. Guests who have chosen standard or deluxe rooms have enjoyed them for being “comfortable” and “well-furnished”. Comments of the food at Riad Fes’ restaurant has been mixed, ranging from mediocre to so ‘fantastic’ that guests haven’t wanted to eat out! Whilst the guesthouse has been recommended for ‘solo travelers…or older couples’, the advice is ‘Don’t be put off by the price – its definitely worth every penny’.
Riad Fes was everything we hoped it to be. Clean, stylish with a Moroccan authenticity. Though the food wasn’t anything to shout about (we tried one dinner) the location means its fairly simple to walk into town and experience the restaurants, cafes etc for lunch or dinner. The staff were very inviting and served a pleasant breakfast (expect continental but with tasty Moroccan pastries). The terrace was a glorious place to watch the sun go down, it has a fantastic view of the Atlas mountains and the medina, haven’t seen anything like it before!

Right from the outset of our arrival we thought that Riad Fes was a gem. You arrive a tad tired and disorientated along a dusty part of town but once inside the riad, the glory lies in the astounding architecture – the tile-work, carved plaster and wood and then the rooms (we took a deluxe), spacious and comfortable, well-furnished verging on the luxurious. We couldn't have asked for more from the riad. The meals were so fantastic we didn’t want to eat out! Don’t be put off by the price – its definitely worth the cost.

10/10 – spent 2 night here. traditional mixed with modern riad allowed contemporary comforts and the authentic baroque style. small pool but having hammam and massage “in-house” was bonus and the restaurant served up some tasty dishes. Would like to come back in future.

During my trip in Morocco I took in several hotels and riads along the way. Riad Fes was by far the best. I stayed in a standard room and ate lunch and dinner out (to save a bit of cash) but I was very impressed with the general arrangement, décor, staff and attitude the place had. I thought the layout of an old and new wing odd at first but it makes sense, my room was cosy and fairly quiet and the staff were very kind. Would recommend this for solo travelers (like myself) or older couples.
