Description

Riad Dar Zitoune, meaning “House of Olives”, is located amongst lush gardens of olive and citrus trees which evoke its name. Located within a five-minute drive from the small village of Taroudant or forty minutes from Agadir, Riad Dar Zitoune allows guests to enjoy a peaceful break in a rural Moroccan setting.

Riad Dar Zitoune balances fourteen bungalows and eight suites. The bungalows comprise twin or double beds, satellite televisions and private terraces. Its junior suites share these features within a more spacious room that offers a mini-bar and dressing-area. Senior suites are similar but, again, allow guests more room and provide a fireplace and flat-screen television in their lounge areas.

Although reopened only recently in 2005 following renovation, the riad has managed to create an authentic ambiance decorated in a mixed Berber Arabic style with local materials. Guests can expect solid wood furnishings and woven rugs in their rooms, wall lighting and small windows complete with shutters, which help to create a cosy atmosphere. However modern comforts have been installed such as air-conditioning, which is provided throughout the hotel.

The riad’s restaurant combines authentic Moroccan dishes such as meat tagines and cous-cous, whilst also supplying vegetarian and international style cuisines. Breakfast is continental and is served outside, as is lunch. Additionally Riad Dar Zitoune’s bar, located downstairs from the restaurant, welcomes guests for drinks and cocktails.

The guest-house is surrounded by a rich range of plant-life. In addition to the olive and citrus trees, Zitoune’s gardens include papaya and banana plants as well a wealth of exotic flowers. Guests are welcome to explore these using the hotel’s book of plant photographs partnered with their names, located at reception. A small library is also available in the sitting room, a spacious area in which guests can sit and relax during the day or evening.

Guests can enjoy the swimming pool at Riad Dar Zitoune, which opens at seven each morning for swimming or simply a splash around. Additionally a Jacuzzi has recently been installed and the in-house spa offers a variety of treatments such as Hammam, steam-baths, massage and beauty therapies. If guests are seeking a more active break at Riad Dar Zitoune, staff can help arrange a trip to a tennis court at Taroudant. Chauffered trips to villages, cities or coastal locations can be arranged and the riad offers bicycles for hire, allowing guests to explore the area in a leisurely manner.

If guests require further inspiration or help in planning their trip, Riad Dar Zitoune has created a “Real Morocco” programme of activities for solo travelers or groups (including families with small children), catering for a range of budgets and interests. A two-day visit to the Atlas Mountains, including an optional trip to the coast is possible. On the other hand, a visit to an original hammam, Moroccan cookery lessons and a ride around the town walls in a horse-drawn taxi may interest guests unwilling to travel far from the riad.

Located an hour's drive from Agadir and a 10 minute drive from the local town of Taroudant.

open quoteThis place was excellent for a couple of nights. We stayed in one of the bungalows and it was lovely, really romantic. The whole riad was simply decorated and very clean, yet had a very rustic feel. As a young couple it was perfect for two quiet nights, but we felt if we had booked three or more nights we might have started to feel slightly bored as Agadir is an hour away and the local villages were limited in their attraction. close quote

March 2008

open quoteAfter visiting Marrakesh last year we decided on something a little less hectic for a holiday this year. A friend of ours had pointed Zitoune out to us as they had stayed there a few years previous. We booked it and were rather looking forward to a proper holiday full of relaxation. Our hopes were not disappointed. We stayed three nights and loved every minute. Our room was incredibly cosy and not over-embellished with Moroccan pattern or colour. We felt very comfortable and also very welcome. We ate all meals at the riad and found them perfectly acceptable. Good portion size (maybe a little big for some..my wife struggled one evening!) and fresh healthy ingredients. The mix of international cuisine seemed a tad patronising, so we avoided those dishes and went for the Moroccan meals. During the day we lingered around the riad mostly, in the pool, or in the case of my wife in the hammam or having a massage! One morning we ventured down to Taroudant. It was very refreshing, not at all touristy like parts of Marrakesh and we enjoyed walking around it. overall, as I hope my review reveals, Zitoune was a very humble, relaxing place to book a stay. We were both very pleased to have chosen it and would jump at the chance to come again! close quote
