Description
Riad Bahia was a family house for four generations until its renovation and opening as a riad hotel in 2003. Arranged around the traditional internal courtyard is a choice of four guestrooms, all individually decorated in authentic furnishings. Two standard rooms provide twin or double beds whilst the mini-suites offer more space. All rooms are en-suite and air-conditioned. At a daily or weekly rate rooms can be booked in conjunction with other rooms, which allows family groups or groups of friends to stay together at Riad Bahia.
All guestrooms are located on the upper floors of the riad, facing into the courtyard or out to the street. Guests should be aware that because of the inner-city location of Riad Bahia, rooms that face out to the street may be a little noisy.
The roof terrace is a good space for guests to read, sunbathe as well as be served breakfast overlooking the medina and local countryside. The courtyard is also a comfortable, shady area with hanging plants. Riad Bahia also offers internal lounges, complete with a flat-screen satellite television and a small library that guests are welcome to use.
Riad Bahia’s restaurant is located on the ground floor and serves Moroccan lunches and dinners. These dishes are made fresh from ingredients bought in the local market. It may be important for guests to note that whilst Riad Bahia can provide vegetarian dishes, they cannot cater to guests with specific dietary requests. Additionally Riad Bahia does not serve any alcoholic beverages, but staff will happy to serve guests imaginative fruit cocktails.
Read MoreMeknes’s attractions are all in walking distance of the riad, making Riad Bahia a good choice for travellers wishing to explore the city. In fact Riad Bahia is located behind the museum Dar Jamaï of Moroccan decorative arts. Riad Bahia can also recommend local hammams and swimming pools to guests. And should guests feel confident about navigating the city themselves Riad Bahia’s staff can arrange a guide or city tour. For guests wishing to explore further afield Riad Bahia can organize day-trips to the Atlas Mountains and cider forest as well as excursions to the archaeological site Volubilis, coastal towns and the desert.

Other useful information
Cookery lessons (€30 per person with a groups of 6 maximum), trips to the desert, Middle Atlas mountains and to nearby cider forests can all be arranged by the riad for its guests upon request.
Riad Bahia is committed to the environment; baskets are used for shopping instead of plastic bags, natural fertilising instead of chemicals and plants are specifically chosen to defend the riad against insects and mosquito instead of using insecticide. Additionally, the riad has plans for solar panels in order to generate hot water more economically.

The Editor's Summary
Riad Bahia has received positive reviews at Morocco Gateway. Recent guests have complimented the ‘small scale’ riad for its ‘unfussy…homely’ style. The rooms can be reserved at ‘reasonable prices’ and the restaurant provides ‘very acceptable’ Moroccan dishes. The location of the riad has been described as ‘literally on the doorstep’ of Meknes’ museums, restaurants and shops. Guests have stayed at Riad Bahia in order to explore the city and surrounding areas of Morocco, as well those who have wanted to sample the local hammams and nightlife. Due to its location it seems Riad Bahia can be rather ‘noisy at times’, but this is to be expected for such a well placed guesthouse.

Spent a long weekend at Riad Bahia with my fiancée and found it to be a sweet little place. We decided on Bahia because of its reasonable prices and small scale. We weren’t looking for a hotel with any special facilities like a pool, we just wanted a base in which to view the city and take a trip to the Atlas mountains and Fez. It turned out to be a good choice. It’s a small hotel, perhaps a bit cramped for some people but we quite liked it. the staff spoke a lot of English and were friendly, helping us with our bags when we first arrived.

We enjoyed our three nights at Riad Bahia in spring. The riad was unfussy and felt homely. The room we stayed in was very clean and comfortable. We ate a couple of meals in the riad and found the food to be very acceptable, but seeing as the riad is so close to the main restaurants and cafes of Meknes we ate out fairly often too. The staff were definitely up to our expectation, we were glad to be able to arrange a pick-up service from the airport as it was our first trip to Meknes. Overall a good place to stay, best for people who want to sight-see rather than those who are looking for a hotel for pool and spa facilities!

First of all we were impressed by the riad’s location in relation to the rest of the city of Meknes. The city is literally on the doorstop of Bahia! This makes it really easy to find and suitable for those who want to take advantage of the night-life and not have to worry about getting back safely. The museum behind the riad is a great find and a nearby hammam offers relaxation and beauty therapies, which we tried one afternoon. The riad was comfortable and our room was particularly well decorated. Though it was renovated in 2003 the riad has managed to keep an original Moroccan style but allowed for practicalities like air conditioning. We didn’t use the restaurant as it seemed a little pricy but the breakfasts were good and the peppermint teas served in the afternoon made a much-needed refreshment. The lounge (which we didn’t use but had a look at) appeared very well-furnished with a huge TV and lots of books. We spent some time on the roof terrace which was a sunny spot and fairly private, but be warned that the riad is so close to the action of Meknes that it can be pretty noisy at times, not always a relaxing feature!
