Description

Maison MK has been voted one of the “Top 100 Hotels in the World” by the Sunday Times Travel magazine, which is no surprise in light of this creative chic guesthouse owned by fashion photographer Paul Hopkins.

The classical Moroccan architecture of the riad was treasured and preserved during its renovation, but imaginative, curvy interiors and a sophisticated range of facilities prove Maison MK to be a very special boutique guesthouse. The rooms range from five standard suites and a master suite (twice the size of the standard alternative), and comprise a double (or twin) beds alongside an en-suite bathroom offering luxurious toiletries all the way from Paris. The rooms are lit subtly from behind and below and each includes an iPod loaded with ambient music, creating a tranquil atmosphere, which continues in the sunken lounge, welcoming guests.

Maison MK offers a good range of comfortable indoor and outdoor lounge areas. The TV room/cinema with its impressive eight-foot projection screen, DVD player, surround sound and Xbox360 may entertain guests. If not – traditional board games are always available. Outside, the patio with heated plunge-pool allows guests to take a quick dip, whilst the lower roof terrace provides a comfortable place to sunbathe with large sun-beds and a curvy-designed shower to cool off in. The upper roof, on the other hand, offers stunning views of the Atlas Mountains whilst dining by day under an orange silk canopy. This area is dramatically transformed into a well-stocked bar by night, lit with a stunning copper fire-bowl.

open quoteReviews from guests who have recently stayed at Maison MK, prove the riad to be “a very luxurious home”. Whether it is the “lavishly furnished” interiors and the suites that are “cool” and “comfortable”, the spa offering “fabulous treatments at affordable prices” or the in-house restaurant serving “homemade and very tasty” cuisine, Maison MK is a first-class riad with a “laid-back…fun atmosphere”. The “fantastic” staff at Maison MK have inspired their guests with confidence with useful tips on the city and ability to arrange activities and excursions. open quoteRight from the moment my wife and I stepped through the doors of Maison MK we felt at home – a very luxurious home! Its beautiful interiors are incredibly inviting, lavishly furnished yet at the same time are laid-back and have a fun atmosphere ( take the camel sculpture coming out of the lounge wall for instance!) The staff were fantastic and served us a great Moroccan dinner on the first night; homemade and very tasty. We retired to the roof terrace for the bar and were astonished to find such a choice of fine wines, champagnes and exotic cocktails. We stayed here for a total of two nights and enjoyed pleasant suite and very comfortable bed! The maison is literally a hop, skip and a jump from the main square so it makes a brilliant launch pad for exploring the city in detail. Next time we make a trip to Marrakech we will make a point of staying here again.close quote

January 2009

open quoteOn booking four night here I was slighting concerned about the maison’s mix of style and fun factor, but I have to say Maison MK was nothing but tasteful. There is a real attention to detail within the rooms, our room in particular was a joy to stay in – it was cool, comfortable and nicely presented. Spa-junkies such as myself will love it – the spa menu offers a long list of fabulous treatments at affordable prices, starting around twenty euros. There was almost too much choice for me, but I would definitely recommend choosing a relaxation massage– one hour of complete bliss. Although we had been to Marrakech two year previous, we still enjoyed hearing city secrets from the staff, and they helped us organise a trip to the Atlas mountains which we hadn’t experienced before. Guests who are newcomers to the city shouldn’t worry – the staff here can arrange transport, guides, any sort of bookings and look after you extremely well. We are very confident about returning here, perhaps on a city weekend break soon.close quote
