Description
Madada Mogador is a modern and stylish hotel located in the coastal town of Essaouira. Whilst guests enter the hotel via a small stone staircase and an old wooden door, they will find themselves in an interior which is airy and modern, decorated simply yet stylishly.
The bedrooms intend to provide a "zen ambiance" painted in two tones, sand and beige, which makes each feel spacious, a feeling enhanced yet further by Madada Mogador’s high ceilings. These guestrooms are located on the main floor of the hotel, two with town views and three with ocean views. A further two suites on the upper floor allow for greater space and privacy whilst also boasting a sea-view. The “Mogador” Suite has a mezzanine salon, which can easily be arranged to form an extra sleeping area for two, and also includes a private balcony (as does the “Cherifa” Suite). Each guest-room has en-suite facilities, providing large contemporary bathtubs, yet retaining the traditional Moroccan “tadelakt” and brass basins from Fez.
As well as the suite’s private balconies, Madada Mogador has a communal roof terrace with panoramic views of the beach and harbour. It is here guests are able to take breakfast and lunch (on request) as well as indulge in some sunbathing. Breakfast is kept simple, as is lunch with a selection of snacks on offer such as paninis and salads at reasonable prices. Whilst Madada Mogador employs a cook who is able to create a private dinner for two on request, the hotel strongly recommends a restaurant on the ground floor serving a mix of Moroccan and French cuisine. Guests may also enjoy a drink beside the chimney fire in the hotel’s friendly salon above. Additionally, Madada Mogador has a small library and a choice of board games, as well as Wi-Fi internet connection and iPod docks to keep guests entertained.
However guests are likely to be attracted outside to the medina for its shops, cafes and restaurants, the souks and market places, not to mention the beaches. Moreover a range of activities such as windsurfing, beach horse-riding, quad-biking over the sand dunes and sailing are always available and can be arranged through the hotel. If none of these suit, the hotel staff are happy to help guests find a local swimming pool or Hammam, or arrange transport to other Moroccan destinations such as Marrakech or Fes.
Where is it?
Madada Magodor can be reached via car in 20 minutes from the airport, and guests may walk easily into the main town, or to the beach in 2 minutes.

Other useful information
Madada Mogador has opened a cooking workshop on its ground floor in a former almond warehouse, allowing guests to "discover the secrets of the Moroccan gastronomy". With small groups (8 persons maximum) of up to eight people, guests learn how to create a Moroccan starter and main dish. In a friendly and casual atmosphere, those half-day workshops teach each participant how to prepare a full traditional meal that one can then easily reproduce at home. Each course is ended in our oriental lounge by the tasting of the prepared dishes and, after the class, participants can enjoy a walking tour in the souks where they will get plenty more tips on the spices and the local seasonal products. Classes are given in English or French, daily Monday to Saturday.
The hotel can also arrange quad biking, horseback riding, water sports, other creative workshops, and guided tour of Essaouira for guests.

The Editor's Summary
Madada Mogador has been described as “perfection” to recent guests staying in the “chic” hotel. The “contemporary and spacious” layout has been advantageous to guests wishing to get away from the city and enjoy a laid-back seaside break. The rooms have also been praised for being “finely decorated…very minimal and cool”. Additionally guests have found the staff helpful and welcoming yet will “respect your privacy to the utmost”, and the restaurant downstairs from Madada Mogador has also received positive comments from travellers who have tasted their “brilliant meals”.
Madada Mogador is a swish hotel, contemporary and spacious. However one thing they didn’t think of when creating this place was insulation. Sadly, the hotel can be noisy, hearing music or people from downstairs etc. Apart from this we thought Madada was great – owners very welcoming and the hotel was a nice size – intimate with only seven rooms yet laid out in a manner that kept privacy and space. We liked Essaouira very much, it being our first time to the town. It seems to be a good option for younger sporty people as well as older couples after some sea and sand. If the hotel had been quieter, it would have made the ultimate relaxation break.

Last April my partner and I stayed three nights in Essaouira. We are quite active, sporty people but also enjoy good food, sea air and relaxation. In turn Madada Mogador was perfection to us! Three nights didn’t seem long enough. The rooms were clean and finely decorated – all very minimal and cool (we were in the Pacha room- the rooms above ours, also with a sea-view, are probably even better). The restaurant downstairs was odd (not being in the hotel itself) but served up some brilliant meals which were much needed after a couple of sessions windsurfing and horseriding. We also checked out the medina and souks, it all felt very laid back and the hotel mirrored this absolutely. The room we had overlooked the ocean, I can imagine the rooms over the medina may be a little noisier but we enjoyed our stay and when we get another chance, we’ll come straight back here.

I stayed here with a friend and we both enjoyed ourselves greatly. Madada Mogador is very chic, a bit like a huge apartment set by the ocean. Coming from Marrakesh it was like stepping into a different country. The hotel owners are friendly, yet let you get on with things and respect your privacy to the utmost. When we inquired about whether Essaouira had any type of guided town walks, the staff made a few phonecalls and an hour later we had it booked. We stayed for two nights and felt it was a good break, any longer and we may have run out of things to do around the area as we aren’t huge water-sport fans.
