Description
Le Palais Rhoul was originally built in the 1950s as a private home for the wealthy Rhoul family and has been renovated extensively to create this luxury hotel in the La Palmeraie area of Marrakech. This palm-grove location affords guests a peace and quiet as well as space that is unlikely to be obtained in a hotel central to the medina. However, Palais Rhoul remains only fifteen-minutes drive from the heart of Marrakech and provides private cars and drivers to chauffeur guests if necessary.
The hotel is spaciously arranged across five hectares of land. The Romanesque architecture of Palais Rhoul provides a classical feel with sculpted columns. Whilst the standard rooms, junior and deluxe suites can be found inside the hotel, overlooking the pool or gardens, the standard and deluxe tents are set under the stars, surrounded by Palais Rhoul’s gardens. The rooms are decorated in rich fabrics and furniture that have been collected by the Rhoul family on their travels. The tents are especially furnished with large curtains and elegant drapes. Displayed throughout the hotel are various antiques and objets d’art, providing each room with an individual style and atmosphere.
Indoor and outdoor lounge areas create comfortable and informal spaces for guests. Inside, guests are welcome to use a library, stocked with hundreds of books or the music jukebox. Meanwhile the swimming pools, one circular and one square, provide a source of relaxation for guests. Additionally, the spa at Palais Rhoul is renowned for its traditional hammam, massages and beauty therapies. Guests may sunbathe within the gardens of Palais Rhoul, lush with plant-life, in which guests may come across the two cats, dogs and birds that inhabit the hotel grounds. For a more energetic activity, guests may use the clay tennis court provided.
Read MoreTwo restaurants serve guests at Palais Rhoul. The first, located within the palace serves Moroccan cuisine - amongst other dishes, guests can expect meat and fish tagines, couscous and desserts of Moroccan pancakes and fruit salad. The second restaurant, l’Abyssin, is an al-fresco alternative and serves fusion food such as Thai-style dishes and rack of lamb with aubergine and coriander. Many of the ingredients Palais Rhoul use in its kitchens are sourced from Palais Rhoul’s own farm.
If guests want a break from in-house dining, restaurants in the city may be booked through the hotel as can many other activities such as horse-riding, camel-rides, golfing and quad-biking on request. Excursions to the Atlas Mountains may be arranged using Palais Rhoul’s own private car and, for further afield, by plane. Transfers to other destinations can also be discussed with the help of Palais Rhoul’s staff.
Where is it?
Palais Rhoul is a 20 minute drive from Marrakech airport and a 15 minute drive from the city centre.

The Editor's Summary
Palais Rhoul has received flattering reviews from guests who have recently stayed at the hotel. Guests have chosen the palace for its location; “more spacious…and much more quiet” than hotels situated in the medina. The bedrooms have been described as “comfortable, beautiful and very peaceful”, whilst the “sophisticated” restaurants have served “tasty and inventive dishes”. Overall guests have found the luxury spa hotel to provide an “out of this world – truly heavenly” experience.
We stayed in the emira room. It was comfortable, beautiful and very peaceful. We had stayed in the medina of marrakesh the year previous and explored the area until we felt there was nothing left to find. This time we chose palais rhoul because of its location; it was much more spacious than something you’ll find in the centre and much more quiet. We also chose it for its famous spa – a real Moroccan experience not to be missed!

Looking at the photos of Palais Rhoul made our expectations rise beyond reality – however when we arrived, we really weren’t disappointed. This place is out of this world – truly heavenly! There is a lot of detail to the decoration throughout the palace, the antiques give a real air of sophistication. The restaurants are also very impressive, we tried dinner in both and preferred to outside. The meals here weren’t Moroccan, but still tasty and inventive. We would adore to come back here, hopefully in the near future.
