Description

Ksar Jenna is a modern Moroccan hotel of old world charm which was opened in 2003 for visitors to eastern Morocco. And in such a location en route to the desert borders, Ksar Jenna is a revelation, boasting gardens of rose beds, orange trees, bougainvilleas and jasmine, the fragrances of which fill the air around the hotel.  Ksar Jenna truly benefits from its peaceful setting where according to the owners the only noise guests may experience is the sound of birdsong in the morning.

Ksar Jenna is distinguished from the many older kasbah hotels scattered in the region as it rather has modelled itself on more Mediterranean style lines and standards of comfort and luxury. The owners, Youssef and Stella, have made sure to keep distinctive Moroccan features such as taddelakt and zellige, and of course its own Moroccan house-cat.

The guest-rooms are decorated in a Moroccan style and situated on the ground and first floors with views over the gardens. Each room has king-size or twin beds and are en-suite with private shower and toilet. Indoor lounge areas consist of a small library and reading area located in the main lounge, beside the bar. Outside, guests may choose the balcony, the patio or the niches around Ksar Jenna to sit, relax and sunbathe. Music and candles are cleverly used by the hotel at different times of the day, evening and night to create relaxing and romantic atmospheres.

Ksar Jenna’s kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily to its guests. Breakfast is a wide choice of fresh bread, jams, yoghurt, cheese, eggs as well as a traditional Moroccan breakfast, complete with a range of hot drinks. Lunch remains a light meal, consisting of pasta and vegetable salads, whilst tagines are served for dinner. These can vary from a dried apricot and walnut tagine to more traditional Berber dishes. Due to the location of Ksar Jenna, ingredients change day by day but are always sourced from the local farmers’ market, and can be adapted to suit vegetarians and guests with dietary requests. Meals can be served inside the main restaurant or lounge in cooler weather, or outdoors when warm.

Although Ksar Jenna does not run a shuttle service to the nearest cities or towns, hotel staff can arrange such transportation as well as organise activities and excursions to nearby villages, valleys and oases or to the desert.

Where is it?

May 2008

open quoteKsar Jenna is a lovely little hotel off the beaten track in south morocco. the place has a fresh new feel to it, probably because its a modern building, which we though was very unusual for houses in the desert. whilst staying here we were surprised to realise the hotel only has seven rooms, consequently jenna feels cosy and privileged, though the prices are wonderfully cheap! we'd definitely come back here, if not for the experience, then for the food which tastes 100% authentic, you can really tell they've put in a lot of effort to make this place as brilliant as it is today. close quote

September 2007

open quoteI stayed here during September 07 for a couple of nights. Its a very tranquil place and feels very much like an oasis - the plants and birds give the place real character. The staff welcomed me on arrival, but were respectful over my privacy, which made the hotel an even greater place to stay for those looking for some peace and quiet. The only downside is the lack of a pool - the heat in september was bearable but a pool would have made all the difference! I'd recommend this to young couples thinking of exploring the south on a budget, but also those looking for some time out.close quote
