Description
Inspired by fourteenth-century architecture, Ksar Char-Bagh is a true palace situated in La Palmeraie and offering thirteen Harim-suites, a traditional hammam, two swimming pools, tennis court and a restaurant to guests looking for a luxurious setting for a special occasion. In view of the hotel’s emphasis on extravagance it comes as no surprise that Ksar Char-Bagh has been chosen as one of the best hotels internationally by magazines including Vogue, Tatler and Forbes.
‘Harim’ means small apartment in a palace and these Harim-Suites do not disappoint. Branching off the central courtyard, the suites range from a small suite with private terrace to a large suite at 100m2 and a spacious apartment with a private pool on its terrace overlooking the Atlas Mountains. Each suite has a king-size bed, dressing room, living room (or two) with fireplace, and private terrace or garden. The en-suite bathrooms include a marble bath with shower accompanied by hand-made toiletries. Within the bedroom, a hidden TV and DVD player are also provided, along with a mini bar. Flower arrangements and perfumed candles add a certain charm, but it is the high-vaulted ceilings and subtle colour schemes of rose-pink and ochre that really make the impressive setting, enhanced by the furnishings specifically designed by the owners for the house. Fortunately, the hotel’s boutique offers guests the chance to take back an authentic piece of Ksar Char-Bagh as they can create many of the items to order.
Read MoreKsar Char-Bagh’s chef, Damien Durand, has developed a successful fusion of Moroccan and Mediterranean food. Breakfast is served inside guests’ suites or on their private terraces, with guests chosing between French, English or Moroccan delicacies such as butter croissants or Moroccan flat breads. Many of the ingredients used in the palace’s kitchen are sourced via their own fruit and vegetable garden, for instance the jams and marmalades for breakfast are made from the palace’s own fruit trees, and the olive oil used in much of the cooking is made directly from the palace’s olive grove. Lunch consists of a three-course menu, served by the pool or in the dining room. If guests prefer not to have a full lunch, snacks can be served throughout the day. Dinner costs 75 euros (compared to lunch at 45 euros) and is served in the dining room or palace tower complete with panoramic view over the palm groves. To spice things up, Ksar Char-Bagh lays on a Moroccan banquet on Friday nights and a brunch on Sundays consisting of smoked salmon, salads and eggs served by the pool.
The pool on the ground floor is available to swim in during summer or off-season due to the fact it is heated. The Hammam also provides a relaxation facility where guests can receive a steam bath, traditional scrub and massage surrounded by the red marble walls. Beauty therapies such as pedicures, manicures and waxing can also be requested. As well as the tennis court and gym facilities, Ksar Char-Bagh provides a billiard room and a cigar room as well as a library containing over 1000 books and 200 DVDs. Outside, the terraces and gardens make a comfortable spot to sunbathe or enjoy the views over the palm groves and surrounding Atlas Mountains, and the old farm built in traditional earth walls houses the boutique.
Whilst there is much to do at Ksar Char-Bagh, guests can find themselves in the city centre within ten-minutes by taxi. The palace’s slightly eccentric London black-taxi cab provides chauffeured transport for guests to and from local attractions. Staff at the palace can also arrange transfers, car-hire and many other bookings on request.

The Editor's Summary
Ksar Char-Bagh has received positive comments from guests who have recently stayed in the palace. Reviews have emphasized the amount of activities offered on-site such as the “tennis court”, pool and hammam “perfect” for relaxation. Alternatively, there is an “impressive collection of books…billiards room as well as the beautiful gardens” with traditional “old farm buildings” to wander through. The suites are “airy” and “incredibly spacious”. Cuisine at Ksar Char-Bagh has been described as “exquisite”, however the small-portions and high price tags may lead guests to opt for dinner in the city, which is an effortless “ten minutes away”. The staff at the palace have also been awarded praise by guests who have found the team to be “friendly” and “wonderful - nothing was too much trouble”.
We stayed four nights in Ksar Char-Bagh and really wished we had booked another night or two. There is a lot to do within the palace; the tennis court is great if the weather isn’t too hot, and the pool, hammam etc are perfect for a cool down/detox. But for lazy days the impressive collection of books and billiards room as well as the beautiful gardens will definitely keep you occupied. And then there’s always the crazy city only ten minutes away! The meals here were exquisite but a little on the small-side portion-wise so we tried eating out a couple of times and found it a bit cheaper. But to be honest, if you’re planning a trip here you really have to be prepared to spend a lot of cash. We drove into the city a couple of times but it was always lovely to come back to the palace afterwards, to be greeted with the friendly team working there and our gorgeous, airy room.

Ksar Char-Bagh is an absolute delight to stay in. Our suite was massive – never seen anything like it! The staff were wonderful – nothing was too much trouble. We only dropped into the city once during our three days as the palace offered so much. Definitely try the hammam and wander around the gardens and old farm buildings, we loved it here – really want to come back!
