OtherDescription
Dar Zemora was purchased in summer of 2001 by its English owners and opened in September 2003 as a guesthouse comprising four suites and three bedrooms. Created as a “country house hotel” Dar Zemora is a convenient retreat, situated in the peaceful Palmeraie area but within a short drive to the city of Marrakech.
Dar Zemora consists of the main house and the Pavillion Suite (the latter containing two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a private pool for groups of people or two couples). Each of the guestrooms in Dar Zemora have been designed individually but remain consistent in their traditional Moroccan features - tadalkt walls, bejmat floors, hand painted zouak ceilings, and moucharabieh woodwork. Whilst all of the rooms are ensuite, the suites benefit from having private terraces and fireplaces to be lit in winter. Dar Zemora’s guestrooms intentionally in the name of peace do not have televisions, iPod docking stations and speakers are in all rooms and portable DVD players and a selection of films are available.
Dar Zemora’s reception rooms are also of importance to guests. The Casablanca Room is a relaxed and informal room, whilst the Omar Room provides a cosier alternative. The Fan Room with floor seating is another living room where guests can order a range of drinks. Additionally, Dar Zemora provides a library with leather armchairs, a collection of books and a variety of board games such as Scrabble, Chess, Backgammon and playing cards.
Eating at Dar Zemora also offers a variety choice. Whilst breakfast consists of fresh fruit, home-baked bread, juices and yoghurt, lunch and dinner are generally set menus but can be adapted to guests’ requests with prior notification. Ahmina (one of the two cooks at Dar Zemora) provides a six small course tasting menu of a more international flavour four nights a week on Friday, Saturday, Monday and Wednesday while Jamilla cooks a four course Moroccan dinner on the other three nights. As Dar Zemora boasts its own herb and vegetable garden, guests can be reassured that much of what is presented on the menu is home-grown as well as home-made. Depending on the season and occasion, meals may be taken in the indoor dining room, the terrace overlooking the ornamental pool or the bird terrace.
A path leading through the herb and vegetable garden will take guests to the treatment room where they may receive hammam or massage, as well as beauty treatments such as manicure and pedicure. Further gardens are planted with roses and palm, lemon and orange trees providing shade. A croquet lawn may also appeal to guests, as well as the large pool framed by sun-beds and parasols.
Guests at Dar Zemora can ask staff for assistance in transportation to and from Marrakech and the airport, as well as for day trips as bookings such as Atlas Mountains, camel or horse riding, and venues for tennis or golf.
Where is it?
Dar Zemora is about a 10-15 minute taxi ride from marrakech's main square, souks and medina. Marrakech Menara airport is 20 minutes taxi ride away.

The Editor's Summary
Guests at Dar Zemora have praised staff on their “welcoming” approach, helping guests to feel “at home” and creating a “relaxing experience”. The “elegant”, “cool and comfortable” rooms have been appreciated for their “authentic Moroccan design”, as well as the reception rooms such as the Casablanca room. Outside, the pool and gardens have allowed a peaceful environment for guests and an alternative to the “hustle and bustle” of the city a short drive away. Additionally, the cooks at Dar Zemora have been thanked for their “exciting, flavorsome dishes”.
Staying in Dar Zemora was a very relaxing experience, and one I would definitely recommend particularly to older couples. Its situation on the edge of Marrakech is perfect if you only want to visit the city now and again. We plunged into the hustle and bustle a couple of times, but preferred the gardens in Zemora and the pool. Our suite was also a bonus – calmy decorated yet obviously authentic to Moroccan design. It was cool and comfortable, but we also felt able to use the living rooms in Zemora, particularly the Casablanca room which was lovely to take mint tea in. We’d like to say a big thank you to the staff at Zemora, including the cooks – in all honesty we didn’t reallt know what to expect food-wise but we were pleasantly surprised and hope to try and replicate some of the exciting, flavorsome dishes we tried out there! Thanks again!

We had a great few days at Dar Zemora. We arrived exhausted from a delayed flight but the hotel’s staff couldn’t have done any more in welcoming us to the hotel, helping us to our room and settling us in. Although we were only here for a short time, we really felt at home in Zemora and we really hope to come back for the wonderful hospitality, elegant rooms and also the food!
