OtherDescription
Five rooms border the patio at the centre of which lies a fountain in the Dar Warda riad, meaning “Home of the Rose”. Although based in central Marrakesh with a ten minute walk to the main square, the hotel is only accessible by a derb, or side street, which provides a quiet stay without immediate traffic noise. Originally a fifteenth century private house, Dar Warda is now a guesthouse offering a genuine Moroccan stay for travellers on their own, or groups of friends and family wishing to take over the whole of Dar Warda.
The five rooms offered by the riad are all individually decorated with hand-made Berber tapestries and oriental paintings as well as contemporary furniture. Many of the rooms offer luxurious benefits such as Egyptian cotton sheets and high quality toiletaries in their en-suite facilities. The Dune suite provides a luxurious option for those seeking a private sitting room as well as a generously sized double bed. However Dar Warda has several communal areas such as the courtyard patio and roof terrace, spaces which are perfect to sunbathe in or to simply read and relax on. In particular the terrace where breakfast is served, offers views over Marrakesh. The lounge salons are cosy comfortable spaces welcome to guests should the nights turn chilly. A new addition to Dar Warda is its internet Wi-Fi, reading and television room where guests can relax, catch up and be entertained. Furthermore, a swimming pool located in the main courtyard provides guests with a chance to cool down in the hot summer months.
Read MoreDar Warda’s kitchen provides authentic Moroccan cuisine at reasonable prices. Some food options consist of salad starters such as carrots seasoned with cumin, cucumber with mint, followed by various tajines flavoured with fruits and nuts, spicy kebabs and deserts such as lemon confit. Meals can be adapted to vegetarians or guests with special dietary requests and are served in the candle-lit restaurant, patio or terrace whilst refreshments during the day consist of coffees, teas, juices and fizzy drinks, all to be enjoyed in Dar Warda's tea-room. If visitors are looking for more variety Dar Warda is happy to arrange restaurant bookings and taxi or car hire. Additionally excursions such as Atlas Mountain trips or transfers to coastal hotels can be easily arranged. Staff are also helpful in directing guests to more local attractions or sport-related activities such as Marrakesh’s golf courses or traditional spas.

The Editor's Summary
Dar Warda is hidden away in the side streets of Marrakesh's popular medina, allowing its four rooms to be free from the majority of the noise a vibrant city like Marrakesh brings. As a recent guest at Dar Warda states, the riad is in a great position for travellers to "experience the city", with only a 15-20 minute walk to attractions. Dar Warda's "cosy rooms" and homemade cooking serve to be a suitable way to the end the day. If travelers are looking for something more refreshing like an in-house spa or pool, then Marrakesh offers such riads elsewhere. Guests have emphasized the fact that Dar Warda is overall good value for money for a central location and welcoming staff.
Our stay was made really comfortable by Dar Warda. It was a lovely riad with cosy rooms and the food wasn’t bad either. It was quite central, probably a 15 minute walk to the main square where there was lots of things to see and do.
We were glad we had pre-booked a taxi through the hotel staff to pick us up from the hotel because otherwise I think we would have got stranded – the hotel is down some tight little alleyways so taxis usually get a bit puzzled I imagine!
The staff weren’t absolutely fluent in English so we had a few cross wires but nothing serious. But this was more than made up by the other visitors staying in the riad at the same time at us. The atmosphere of Dar Warda is so cosy with only four rooms it was really easy to get to know other people travelling around Morocco and swap tips!
Overall it was good value – the food, the room price etc and if we ever come to Marrakesh again we would stay in Dar Warda again.

If you’re coming to Marrakech for the first time than I’d really recommend Dar Warda as a suitable riad to stay at. It is quiet yet really close to all the action of the main square, has friendly staff who can help a bit when it comes to deciding how to plan your days and the riad’s rooms are elegant but simple – as is the food, which as long as you request 24hours in advance than you wont be disappointed. I stayed here with my wife and we enjoyed it, we werent quite sure what to expect but we were happy with our decision, the little things like the fountain in the courtyard give the riad character.
My only advice would be that Dar Warda probably isn’t best for guests who want a holiday full of relaxation and pampering. Though the terrace is lovely for sunbathing and has the great advantage of having a proper view, the riad doesn’t offer a real in-house spa or anything like Hammam. Neither does it have a pool of its own or a TV room. There are other riads which offer this but Dar Warda makes a good base for people who really want to experience the city – not just the hotel.
