Description

Prince Pietro and Princess Letizia Ruspoli originally bought Dar Seven as a personal holiday home, but following a recent renovation, the owners have chosen to open the doors of the riad to those looking for an understated, chic launchpad from which to explore, or indeed escape, Marrakech.

Offering three queen-size bedrooms and one twin, Dar Seven welcomes solo travellers, couples or friends as well as large family groups wishing to book the house in exclusivity. Whilst The Brown Room offers twin beds, The White Room is the largest guestroom in the Dar, measuring thirty square-metres with a four-poster bed romantically draped in white linen. The White Room benefits from a wonderful supply of light delivered from three windows ornately framed in ironwork overlooking the courtyard, and an en-suite bathroom with double sinks. The Loggia Suite, also located on the first floor, has a similarly large, light bedroom enhanced by its own private seating area outside. Finally, The Guest Room provides comfortable accommodation on the riad’s ground floor. Dar Seven’s rooms exude a lofty feel due to their high ceilings and low lighting (delivered from a combination of wall-mounted lamps or candles in the evenings), numerous large mirrors increase the already spacious arrangement of rooms.

All guests are welcome to share and enjoy the inner courtyard, incredibly comfortable interior lounge and reading room that Dar Seven offers. The riad is elegantly decorated in cream, ochre and black tones and subtle stripes, a refreshing contrast from the myriad of colours and patterns in the city. The continuity of this interior design is impressive, extending to every space and detail in the riad; black candlesticks, white-washed wooden furniture, mother-of-pearl inlaid chairs and interesting antique drawings of past sultans. On the top floor the riad’s roof-top terrace is arranged with sun-loungers providing a relaxing escape from the bustling city streets. The stripy tent allows a shaded area by day and an imaginative opportunity to dine al fresco at night.

On the culinary side, Dar Seven’s stylish dining room makes the perfect place for guests to experience Moroccan dishes. Ahmed and Mouna serve guests with efficiency and grace creating a sense of ceremony whether its breakfast (with continental or Moroccan pastries, pancakes and breads) or complimentary afternoon mint tea and cake. Stuffed vegetables, omlettes made with local herbs and fresh salads may be available at lunch-time , whilst for dinner guests may be fortunate in finding such dishes as chicken and olive tagines, artichoke gratins and desserts such as lemon confit on the menu.

Alternatively, staff at Dar Seven can advise guests on local restaurants and arrange subsequent bookings if necessary. Guests can also call on the riad’s staff to help find a guided tour of the city, a swimming pool or traditional hammam. Furthermore, Dar Seven can organise transfers to other exciting Moroccan locations, perhaps a trip to the coastal town of Essaouira or an Atlas Mountain excursion, or simply a night of musical entertainment within the riad to make a special occasion even more memorable.

Where is it?

Dar Seven is a 25 minute drive from Marrakech airport and a 10 minute walk from the city's medina.

open quoteWe booked the White Room at Dar Seven and had the most memorable of stays in a hotel ever! When we first arrived hot, tired and hassled by local young men to help us find the riad we were greeted by Mouna and then Ahmed who immediately took our luggage and showed us to a table in the courtyard smartly dressed in a white cotton tablecloth, napkins and the most comfortable chairs I think I have ever sat in! We were then brought a glorious pot of mint tea, orange juice, chocolate cake and then this was followed by the warm rolled pancakes with marmalade. What a relief! Our stay continued in the same manner. Ahmed showed us to our room and I was stunned - it looks even better than the photos. It is such a large room that the four-poster bed doesn't overcrowd it and the bathroom was also large with double sinks and a massive bath for two. We decided to eat out at the square and orientate ourselves with the city for our first evening, when we arrived back to the riad at 8ish we were so suprised to find all of the candles in our room lit, even around the bath. Moreover, within half an hour Mouna brought up an unexpected tray full of pastries, biscuits, mint tea and lemon juice - bliss! After a quiet night we took breakfast in the courtyard, which just kept on coming-pancakes, bread, tea and coffee. The stillness of the riad is truely astounding for its city location, the interior design is world-class and nothing could have been done to make improve our stay here - absolutely wonderful. close quote

open quoteThis place is very homely and just what we were looking for. Staying here for three nights this spring made a much-needed break. We hoped for the white room but it was already booked, so chose the guest room and were not disappointed. It was simply decorated but had some beautiful furnishings and had a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Out of convenience we took dinner here a couple of times and, again, were not disappointed! - in fact we were wonderfully surprised by the freshness and creativity in the meals we had ordered. We've stayed in some lovely places in previous trips to Morocco, dar Seven is definitely one of the bestclose quote

open quoteOur experience of Dar Seven was great. Rather than those large, impersonal chain hotels, this place is like a sophisticated home with staff who treat you like you’re their only guest. We were so impressed by this place that we’re returning in November – can’t wait!!close quote

open quoteWe booked three nights in Dar Seven, staying in the white room – which is truly glorious! We were quite surprised by the elegant but very subtle style of Eastern and Western decoration in Dar Seven but applaud it entirely – after a day out in the city (an assault on the senses) nothing was better than returning to this clean, comfortable, understated home. The staff proved themselves to be very attentive and served us tea on the roof terrace on two occasions when we were exhausted from a long day of sight-seeing. The only snag was the long-ish walk from the centre, which, through a maze of streets isn’t the easiest route to remember. But once you’ve got the hang of it, its really no problem. We loved Dar Seven and hope you will too…close quote
