Description
Dar Attajmil can be found nestled down a winding side street of the old Medina in Marrakesh. The lack of passing traffic access makes the hotel a quiet sanctuary from the vibrancy of the city . With only four rooms and one private suite, the hotel offers an intimate setting for couples, small families and groups of friends. The cosy atmosphere of this small hotel is increased by Dar Attajmil's small team of staff who have been developed by the owner Lucrezia Mutti and who make guests feel welcome as well as keeping the place spotlessly clean.
The riad is comprised of a peaceful roof terrace with cushions, wicker chairs and sofas, patio courtyard, and its own library, all complimented by an inside lounge. The four double rooms and one suite of accommodation are individually decorated in a tasteful east-meets-west style and all benefit from fans and air-conditioning and ensuite facilities. To preserve the peaceful, relaxing ambiance of the riad there are no telephones or televisions although there is internet access for those guests who want to stay in contact with back home. Although young children are welcome in the hotel (facilities are readily available such as cots and an on-demand babysitting service), the relaxed and quiet atmosphere of the hotel may not suit all families.
Read MoreDar Attajmil serves all meals during the day at reasonable cost. These are traditional Moroccan styled dishes with Mediterranean influences due to the Italian owners. Most meals are served on the roof-terrace or courtyard patio. These meals can be adapted to those with vegetarian or dietary requests and consist of locally bought organic food from the small producers of the Ourika valley. The hotel is well-placed with only a 5 minute walk to Djemaa el Fna (the main square) where other restaurants and cafes are located.
To relax, an in-house spa service is available to guests, offering hammam and other therapies such as massage for a fixed price. The hamman provides a traditional experience as well as a spa service covering a range of face, body and hair treatment and relaxing massages with famous Moroccan Argan oil used by a professional masseuse trained in the ancient beauty treatments of of Morocco. Addtionally, sunbathing on the roof-terrace loungers is popular with guests.

Dar Attajmil is not immediately accessible by car (as it is in the old Medina) making it difficult for taxis.
Call to prayer at 4am can be hard to sleep through - ear plugs might be a good idea.
The hotel can organise a local tailor to call to measure guests for a Moroccan kaftan or to duplicate a favourite dress.
The hotel seeks to follow an eco ethic, buying organic food from the small producers of the Ourika valley. It also uses cleaning and other products with a very low impact on the environment.
All the staff have been developed through a work project founded by the hotel's founder Lucrezia Mutti to support women from rural environment. Each staff member has developed a special skill and is today integrated in our small body of staff as a family member. Their families and children are as well involved in some educational support (school, studies and cultural visits).
Staff can organise special events for occassions such as birthdays and anniversaries.
New for 2009/10, Dar Attajmil has developed a new Moroccan cuisine activity where guests accompany hotel kitchen staff to the local Bab Doukkala Souk food markets for ingredients and spices in the morning, and then assist their chef in the preparation of their own 3 course Moroccan lunch including homemade Moroccan bread, gaining exposure to Moroccan culinary skill and culture. The meal is then eaten on the roof terrace or patio area. Cost for this activity is €50 per person (based on 1 or 2 people) or €40 (based on 3 or 4 people).

User Reviews on Dar Attajmil
Below you'll find reviews written by our users, that have stayed in this hotel. The reviews are vetted and verified by us and may have been summarised by our editor to give you a meaningful summary.
The Editor's Summary
Dar Attajmil has been acknowledged by recent guests as an escape from the noise of the city. Its cool, calm and comfortable rooms and outdoor areas, such as the "atmospheric roof terrace" provide a romantic spot for couples staying in the riad.
From reviews it is clear that it is quite easy to forget that the riad is only a short walk from the main square and its attractions. The hotel seems to invite new and experienced travelers alike. Guests who have reviewed have commented on the welcoming hotel staff at Dar Attajmil; their help arranging day-trips and cooking up
fresh Moroccan dishes. The "complimentary mint tea" is also a favourite.
The fluency amongst the staff has been reported as a slight problem, as has the lack of a swimming pool in the riad itself. But these issues appear to be insignificant in light of the "unique" quality Dar Attajmil brings to Marrakesh.
Beautiful riad, full of Moroccan charm in the middle of Marrakesh and the rooms were available at fantastic prices. The public areas such as the patio and terrace were quiet and really comfortable to use although quite intimate. All the attractions we'd planned to see were within 10 minutes walking and we both had massages in the hotel which should be on everyone's to-do list. Beautiful place - lovely

My partner and I stayed in this riad for three nights. It is a great and romantic place for couples due to its intimate feel but I could easily imagine coming back with family members in the next few years.
The atmospheric roof terrace where we had dinner one evening was the perfect ending to the stay. The staff were friendly and helped us plan some of our days out and were very happy to pick us up from the airport when we arrived and to drop us back on our return back.
Overall it was a great experience and I hope to visit again in the not too distant future.

After staying at a few different riads during the my several trips to Morocco I found my stay at Dar Attajmil most unique. I came with a friend and we were helped by the staff to make a visit to the Atlas Mountains, which was quite simply brilliant! Although the level of english spoken at the riad wasn't that fluent, it didn't seem to impact on our stay.
The meals we had at the riad were much better value than eating out and seemed to be a much healthier option also. The complimentary mint tea was also a refreshing treat to have at the end of a hot day! Shame the hotel did not have its own swimming pool as this would have been the ultimate in relaxation for me.
Although I plan to travel further around Morocco in my next visit I will definitely keep this place in mind..
