OtherDescription
Riyad Al Moussika dates back from the mid-nineteenth century when it was once a residence for the former extravagant Pasha of Marrakech, Thami El Glaoui. Today, Al Moussika has been expertly restored over a period of three years by Moroccan craftsmen to an Andalusian-styled luxury hotel offering just six rooms close to the centre of Marrakech.
The six rooms are divided into three categories: Double Comfort Junior, Double Comfort, and Double Deluxe. Many of the rooms can be altered in order to provide twin beds (and/or children’s beds), rather than doubles. Additionally the Double Comfort Junior room is a good choice for a guests travelling alone. All rooms are located on the first floor overlooking the garden or Moorish court and have ensuite bathrooms and all with air-conditionning. Furthermore the rooms at Al Moussika have the added benefit of being furnished with natural materials - goose-feather duvets, natural-fibre mattresses and Egyptian cotton sheets, allowing guests the most comfortable of stays.
Infused throughout Al Moussika is authentic Moroccan design and flair. Cedar wood painted ceilings and intricate plasterwork can be found in most rooms, as well as mosaics and brassworks. Guests can find out more about Moroccan design in Al Moussika’s library containing mostly art history books on the country, as well as a film collection for movie-lovers. Other salons include the music room that provides a cosy fireplace for winter, a hi-fi system and a Pleyel grand piano for guest use. Additionally the music room is of interest due to its modern paintings that grace its walls.
Two terraces also provide lounge-areas, partially sheltered with wooden pergolas and surrounded by large terracotta flower vases, these terraces also offer impressive views of the medina and surrounding Atlas Mountains. The gardens also offer a shady spot to relax in. Two ancient Cyprus trees, jasmine plants and orange trees provide an aromatic environment in which doves and swallows may be seen. Meals may be taken on the terraces, in the garden, or in the dining/reception rooms available. The cuisine at Al Moussika is a fusion of Moroccan, Italian and French recipes by the Chef (who holds a Grand Diploma Cordon Bleu) whose menu changes each day according to the season. Guests will find many ingredients in Al Moussika’s meals are organically grown from the farm the hotel owns just outside Marrakech.
The swimming pool (in an Andalusian Basin style) is provided for guests. The hammam with a relaxation room, created in white marble and located on the ground floor, is also included in the room rate. Cookery lessons and musical entertainment are offered on-site and on request, whilst other activities can be booked with Al Moussika’s staff such as horse-riding, cycling, hiking, Atlas Mountain trips and restaurant reservations.
Where is it?
Al Moussika is five minutes walk from Marrakech's Jemâa El F’na main square and a fifteen-minute drive from the airport.

This place is charming, and the people who run it are excellent hosts. The chef in particular we appreciated as the food was so good, we ate in the riad almost every day! The attention we received was relaxed (but not slack) and I particularly liked the room we stayed in which was not only comfortable but stunning. Could not recommend this place more.

Riyad al Moussika was a great choice for my husband and I, we stayed for six nights and wished we could have stayed longer. Our expectation was that the riyad was quite small as we’d stayed in another Moroccan riyad the year previously, but we were pleasantly surprised by its spacious dimensions, and with only six rooms the house remains a quiet and therefore relaxed environment. We would like to thank everyone who looked after us and made our stay so wonderful. We would definitely recommend Riyad al Moussika to future guests.

We were wowed by Al Moussika: its beautiful interiors (and exteriors!), the staff’s astounding attention to detail and its atmosphere which really made us feel like royalty. We spent a total of four days here and chose the riad for its good location – it really is only a five minute walk to the centre (once you get your bearings!) but we also spent a lot of time lounging in the riad, soaking up some sun and some steam in the hammam…
